THE PEOPLE OF TUNBRIDGE WELLS CELEBRATE
FAIRTRADE TOWN STATUS!
On Saturday 10th March 2007 the Mayor received the certificate of Fairtrade Town Status on behalf of the People of Tunbridge Wells.

Tunbridge Wells, 10th March 2007: Mayor, Mr Ron Weeden received a certificate on behalf of the people of Tunbridge Wells marking out the town’s newly achieved Fairtrade Town status. The presentation took place at 1.00pm, Saturday 10th March next to the millennium clock. The town centre has also become the site of a new community art installation as part of the celebrations.
Tunbridge Wells based drumming band Bloco Fogo drew in the crowds with their colourful costumes and extraordinary drumming skill, before the Faritrade Town Certificate was presented to the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Mr Ron Weeden by Gloria Thorpe a member of the Fairtrade Town Campaign Group. The Mayor was joined by MP Greg Clark (shadow minister for Charities) and leader of the Council Cllr Melvyn Howell.
Tunbridge Wells town centre is festooned with colour this week as 25 local schools link together to create a community art installation in Calverley Precinct. Organised by the Fairtrade Town Campaign group, the installation not only marked Fairtrade Fortnight, but also celebrates the culmination of a four-year campaign for the award of Fairtrade Town status.
