FAIRTRADE FASHION SHOW PULLS IN A CROWD
Tunbridge Wells 7th March 2009: Tunbridge Wells celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight with a Fairtrade Fashion Show. Models included students from local primary and secondary schools and the stunning set was the result of much hard work by students from the Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School.
The show was not only an entertaining but also thought provoking, informative presentation about the ethics of the clothing industry. The winners of the ‘T-Shirt competition’ also took a spin on the catwalk showing off their ‘Designer T-Shirts’
The Fashion show was well supported due not only to the interest in Fairtrade Fashion, which can now be found in many well known local stores, but also because of the guest speaker Oumarou Gadjere.
Oumarou is a Fairtrade Cotton Producer from Cameroon and was on tour of Fairtrade Towns with the Fairtrade Foundation. He spoke about the problems that cotton producers in Cameroon are facing and the positive impact of Fairtrade in his local community. Oumarou said “…it is fantastic for a producer like me to meet the people that buy our cotton. I am at the beginning of the supply chain, speaking directly to you, the consumer, at the end. You wouldn’t get that with any other business”.

The Fashion show was a great success and special thanks also go to Amy our Make up artist, Maya for Choreography, Merlin for lights, Damien our photographer, Jarve and Stuart our sound and technicians’, Lynn for T-shirts and Pete for transport! Also to our many helpers both before and on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you.
We will publishing a photo gallery for this event soon
